Electrical-Metrorail-project

🔌 Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Traction Power Supply System (TPSS)

Supplies power to the trains (typically 750 V DC third rail or 25 kV AC overhead catenary).

2. Electrical-Metrorail-project work description:

Electromechanical systems are integral to modern technology, combining electrical and mechanical processes to perform automated or semi-automated functions. From household appliances to industrial robotics, these systems power our world with precision and efficiency.

3.Electrical-Metrorail-project:

The key to designing efficient in Electrical-Metrorail-project systems is integrating disciplines: electrical engineering ensures reliable power and control, while mechanical engineering focuses on structure and motion. As automation and smart technologies evolve, so does the need for innovative electromechanical solutions that are more compact, energy-efficient, and responsive.

Receiving Substations (RSS)

1. Overhead Catenary System (OCS) or Third Rail

OCS is used for trains running on 25 kV AC.

Third Rail is used for systems like Kolkata Metro and Delhi Metro Phase I (750 V DC).

2. Electrical Load Management

Power supply to stations, depots, tunnels, and operational control centers. Backup systems using UPS and DG sets.

3. Lighting and Auxiliary Power

Station lighting, escalators, elevators, air-conditioning, and platform screen doors (PSDs).

Fire detection and suppression systems.

4. SCADA System (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)

Controls and monitors power systems remotely.

Essential for real-time diagnostics and fault response.

5. Earthing and Bonding

Protects passengers and equipment from electric shocks.

Ensures proper grounding of all systems.

6. Energy Efficiency and Renewable Integration

Use of regenerative braking.

Solar panels on station roofs and depots.

🛠️ Departments Involved with the Electrical Team:

Civil Department: For coordination on structural integrations.

Signaling & Telecom: For interlocking with power controls.

Rolling Stock: Coordination for traction compatibility.

Operations: For maintenance scheduling and emergency protocols.

⚙️ Common Tools & Standards:

IEC, IEEE, and IS codes for electrical installations.

AutoCAD, ETAP, and SCADA software for design and simulation.

Major Electrical Works in Metro Rail Projects

1. Traction Power Supply System (TPSS)

This system powers the metro trains and includes:

  • Receiving Substations (RSS):

    • Receives 132 kV / 220 kV / 400 kV supply from the power grid.

    • Converts it to 25 kV AC or 750 V DC for traction.
